In order to get this loan, you have to be able to put down a certain percentage of the purchase price as a down payment. While you can get loans for less than a 20% down payment, 20% is ideal. If you put down less, you’re going to have a hard time getting good terms on your loan. Your first step to buying a house is gathering a big enough down payment.
